Steve was born and raised on a grain and cattle property south of Chinchilla (Darling Downs). After completing secondary school he worked for 12 months on the property before attending Gatton Ag. College where he studied for an Associate Diploma in Rural Techniques.
Steve then worked for the DPI Soil Conservation Branch surveying and marking out contour banks and waterways for various properties on the Downs to control soil erosion. After a short stint there Steve moved to the Atherton Tableland where he worked for the DPI at Kairi Research Station in the tropical maize breeding program for two years. Following this, Steve moved into rural merchandise where he worked for Elders in Atherton and Tully. Various buy outs and takeovers during his 15 or so years in Tully meant he also worked for Frank Sauer & Sons, Iama and Wesfarmers Landmark before moving back to Elders. Positions held during this period included Agronomist and Branch Manager.
Not long after moving to Mission Beach Steve married his beautiful wife Terri who comes from Upper Barron area of the Tablelands and they now have three great kids: Brayden, Mitchell and Sarah.
After accepting a position with Stocklick Trading in early 2006 the Flett family has moved back to the Tablelands & are enjoying being back immensely.
